Two weeks before Lindsay's 30th birthday, she met my cousin, Puddles, the Great Dane. After a few short months of snooping and investigating, I now have these tidbits to share about him.
Born: January 6, 2012
Adopted: March 20, 2012
Name: Puddleglum's nickname, Puddles, comes from Puddleglum in "The Silver Chair." No matter what danger the characters found themselves in, Puddleglum never lost sight of the truth! Puddles is a great name. From the first day, Puddleglum became Puddles. She calls him by both names, but Puddles is his favorite.
Bark: from the very first, even before meeting Lindsay, Puddles found his voice and always had something to say!
Now, his barks change depending on the situation. He is very sassy and will bark at Lindsay when she gives him a command he doesn't want to do. He will do the command, but will talk back to her the whole time. He has a very deep big boy bark for strangers. There is no doubt a big dog lives at my home.
Sleep: Unlike me, Puddles sleeps... A LOT! He is extremely active twice a day for about 30 minutes and then spends the rest of the day snoozing. His favorite place to sleep is on the sofa with Lindsay. He plops himself down on the couch after she gives the "Puddle cuddle" command just after dinner and stays there until bed.
Commands: Like me, Puddles favorite command is "allay." He just loves to go wherever she rambles inside and out!
His least favorite command is "sit." I think this is really odd, but there you have it. Puddles does not like to be told to sit. In fact when he was going for his Canine Good Citizen exam, he failed because he refused to sit on command. Lindsay was so embarrassed and the class was laughing so hard because when she said "sit," Puddles stretch his front paws far out in front of him and stretch all the way through his body, wagging out his tail in the end. Then he looked up at her, quite satisfied with himself, and expression on his face that said, "Thanks, mom, I needed that."
Favorite Human Food: so far he hasn't tried any that he doesn't like. He particularly like veggies and fruit!
Favorite TV Shows: none, he would rather sleep than watch TV, unless there is a dog or stick on.
Favorite pastime: carrying sticks while running in the woods.
Favorite season: winter because he absolutely LOVES the snow. He loves eating snow, jumping in snow, running in snow, crunching snowballs, and sunning in snow.
Favorite way to get Lindsay's attention: put his head on her forearm.
